Member’s Survey Results are in! Survey says: ‘Sequim Picklers just want to have fu-un…’
Thank you to the 167 Sequim Picklers who responded to a recent survey designed to gather input on current issues facing the Club, and guide the Board of Directors in the 2023 planning and programming process.
The 26-question survey sent last week to our 394 members was created by Club Secretary Bill Penczak and reviewed and edited by Pickleball Court Operations Committee (PCOC) member Libby Hartman. One finding revealed that a majority of Sequim Picklers play the game for fun and “the social aspect of the sport.”

When asked what aspects of Club membership were most important to them and how well Sequim Picklers delivered on those expectations, our members gave the Club an “above average” rating. While there’s still work to be done to make Sequim Picklers more responsive to its members and their needs, it’s nice to know we’re heading in the right direction.
How would you describe the Club?

Save the Date: Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022 Sequim Picklers’ Board of Directors Meeting
Oct. 9, 2022 Board Meeting Summary Here are highlights of the Oct. 9 Sequim Picklers’ Board of Directors meeting: —Director of Court Operations (DOCO): The Board is in the process of identifying candidates for the DOCO and the Assistant DOCO, and plans to have the new team in place as soon as possible. With outdoor play becoming more limited as the days grow shorter and (soon-to-be) wetter, the timing is working in our favor. Stay tuned for updates. —Member survey: Thank you to Club members who took the time to provide their input on the survey. The Board reviewed the top-line results, and Bill Penczak will make a more formal and complete presentation in the weeks to come. All the raw data and the summary report will be made available to Club members. We are just a few members shy of reaching 400 total Sequim Picklers! —Indoor facility: We are working on an action plan in conjunction with some other community organizations to investigate creating an indoor multi-sport facility that would, of course, include courts for the country’s fastest growing sport. This is in the very early stages, and will require months of budgeting, creating a business plan, and presenting the idea to various constituencies. Club Charity status: Our outside Certified Public Accountant confirmed the Club is in compliance with IRS regulations related to being a 501(c)(3). The Treasurer reported the Club currently has $77,000 in assets.

Question: In Singles pickleball play, can a Receiver be out of position?
Answer: Yes, but if the Server serves the ball to the wrong court, it is a service fault. Location of the Server is dependent on the Server’s score. An even score means the Server is serving from the right side of the court. If the score is odd, the Server is serving from the left side of the court. The Receiver should be in the diagonal court.
If your Receiver is waiting on the left court, for example, but your score is 4-3, then serving to their left court would be a fault. Remember, it is the Server’s score that determines where the serve is coming from and going to (the serve goes diagonally).
—Have a question about something that happened on the court? Send it to me at K.T. Thomas, Registered Trainer of Referees.
