Sequim Picklers’ Activities at Carrie Blake Park Courts — April / May 2022

Hello Picklers,

Sequim Picklers has paid for a Special Event Permit for every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon for our Club’s activities. Here are some of the exciting events lined up for April and May:

Second Sequim Major League Tournament — Saturday, May 14

We are pleased to announce the next Sequim Major League Tournament, Saturday, May 14,start time 8 a.m. The first 64 players who sign up will get drafted. Please email me at

pickleballkendal@gmail.com (mailto:pickleballkendal@gmail.com)to get on the list.We will play to 9, win by 1. There will be two rounds this time, so play could continue as late as 2 p.m.

Rating Saturdays continue — 9-10:30 a.m.

Rating Saturdays allow you an hour-and-a-half to play in a competitive situation that’s as close to Tournament Play as you can find (outside of playing in an actual tournament). Ratings are used to sort people out for other activities, such as the Major League Tournament.

NEW! “Chance to Advance” — 11 a.m. Saturday mornings

For people who want to work on their rating without a partner, our new “Chance to Advance” classes will pair you with a partner to play Skinny Singles. Research shows Skinny Singles ratings relate closely to Doubles ratings. Although the partner communication piece is missing, you don’t have a partner missing shots influencing your team’s performance.

It’s an opportunity to work on your game and get rated based solely on your own play. Your scores will be recorded, and a separate rating will be kept on these games. I will use this rating to put you where you need to be for Saturday Rated Play. Come see me on Saturdays at 11 a.m. during Rated Play and I will set up some games.

NEW! “Team Play Saturday” — APRIL 23!

Rated Play will be replaced by “Team Play Saturday” only on April 23, 9 a.m. to noon.

This special event is tailored to help partners get ready for a tournament. Meet up with your partner and play quality matches against other teams. If you do not have a partner, we will match you up with someone on that day. Scores will not be recorded.

Sunday Beginner’s Classes — 3-5 p.m.

Beginner’s Classes continue on Sundays from 3-5 p.m. Volunteers to help with instruction are still needed. If you can help out, contact ‘Goose’ at dgoose748@gmail.com.

NEW! Instructional Classes for Beginner ‘Grads’ — Tuesdays 1 p.m.

Sequim Pickler Phil Milliman will offer Instructional Classes tailored to “graduates” of our Sunday Beginner’s Classes on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. To participate, you must know the basics of the game and how to keep score. Phil and friends will get you a little further down the pickleball trail.

Ladder League — Tuesdays 5:30 p.m.

Ladder League returns on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. This will be for all levels and scores will be recorded. There likely will be prizes awarded during the night.

Instructional Play — Fridays @ Noon

A new program called, “Instructional Play” pairs players 4.0 and higher with lower-level players to focus on decision-making, court awareness, and strategy. You and your partner will have a chance to play against advanced players for a few points, then play a game paired up with the advanced player. You won’t worry so much about the shot you missed but, rather, was it the right type of shot to attempt? You will not need to sign up for this right now. Just look for us at noon on Fridays.

COMING SOON! Pickleball Clinics

We are getting a Special Event Permit from the City to hold two powerhouse Pickleball Clinics — one on a Saturday afternoon for four hours and the second the next day, on Sunday morning, for four hours. I am in talks with a pro from Seattle that has an interest in coming out. More information to follow as I work out the details.

Thanks for your support.

We are working hard to build Sequim Picklers’ programs back up.
